Dr. Erica Roebbelen
Dr. Roebbelen received her MD from the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine in 2013 and completing her residency in Family Medicine at McMaster University in 2015. She has graduated from four schools including Oakville Christian School and King’s Christian Collegiate, receiving first-class honours and being elected Valedictorian at all four, including McMaster’s prestigious Arts and Science program. She has served as the Acting Director of Hamilton’s Shelter Health Network, where she continues to work, supporting patients experiencing homelessness. She was instrumental in establishing an Overdose Prevention Site in Hamilton and has strongly advocated for safe injection sites.
Passionate about providing health care to indigenous, under-resourced and new Canadians, Erica’s strong Christian faith is foundational to her practice of medicine. Erica converted to Orthodoxy in her late twenties and is a member of the St. Maria of Paris Orthodox Mission in Hamilton. She is currently pursuing a Masters of Theological Studies through Trinity College at the University of Toronto. She is an accomplished pianist, an avid cyclist and trekker, an adventurous international traveller and a voracious reader. Erica recently became engaged to Dr. Gajendran Raveendranathan, an economics professor at McMaster University, and they look forward to their wedding next summer.
